Head to head
also: H2H
Two players' record against each other: every meeting, who won, and on what surface.
The head to head is the first number quoted before a big match. It is returned with every meeting's score, the wins each split by surface and the record in finals, because a 5-3 lead built on clay says little about a meeting on grass.
Walkovers are listed but not counted as wins, the convention the tours themselves follow for head to head.
The common mistake
Old meetings weigh as much as recent ones in a raw count. Read the dates, or compare the two players' current ratings, before leaning on a lopsided record.
