Deciding set
also: final set · went the distance · five-setter
The last possible set of a match: the third in best of three, the fifth in best of five.
A match goes the distance when both players win all but one of the sets needed: 2-1 in sets for best of three, 3-2 for best of five. The deciding-set record (deciding sets played and won) is the usual measure of how a player does when a match is level at the end.
It is counted from completed matches only. The data does not say whether a match was best of three or five, but a completed match of 2-1 or 3-2 can only have been one that went the distance, so nothing has to be assumed.
A 2-1 retirement did not go the distance: the match stopped. Deciding sets count completed matches only.
